Before the summer vacation, my classmates and I wanted to choose this course just because we wanted to keep learning English and finding some benefit thing to do in vacation. The course is completely different with my idea at the beginning. It is not a class that is taken in traditional way, it is not easy and no boring. It is a big challenge too. First, trying to hear eight songs in five days and figure out all the words that I do not know; second writing at least 350 words after listen all songs and read the articles in the textbook; third I have to hand my work and read others’ works then make comments before the dead line; the fourth is preparing the two examinations. Trying to write an article in 350 words is not so difficult, because after three times I could do it smoothly. The hard parts of writing are what to write and how to organize thinks. Taking this class make me learn how to show my ideas and feel more comfortable when writing in English. Maybe my works are not good as before, I am not afraid of writing and feel embarrassing when doing writing in English.

The most important thing I learned is the attitude in learning English. I felt hard in preparing any kind of English examination or improving my English skills. Mr. Lin asked a classmate how long did she spend on getting familiar with the songs and the course, and she answered “one hour and little more.” Mr. Lin said “That is not enough, and try to spend at least two hours a day on learning these English songs.” Be honestly, I spent just forty to fifty minutes on listening the songs in the class’s web before taking the middle exam. As I wanted to remember any word in the songs, I had to read textbook carefully and follow singers sang. Of course it took much time, but it can not promise that I can remember every word, the regular of the song, and write down when taking an exam.
If I try to sing with the music, write down all words of the song, or just repeat after the songs, I will learn more. In fact, it is a little hard to me; I knew I was too lazy in learning English.
Actually it is not so difficult to improving English, and not only can learn from hard and heavy English books. From following the course, I think I realize how to study pop songs and movie. Though I do not understand American culture as well as Mr. Lin, I still can try to find some useful from the Internet. Reading others’ works and getting the comments from classmates are very helpful. In other English classes, the students are not easy to say their opinions and read others’ ideas. So I think the rule of journal help us to do interaction. Reading others and attempt to make a good and suitable comment are really benefit. Thanks to 助教.
